麻豆精品 researcher creates HeART artwork in memory of colleague for Highland Hospice Trail
Highland Hospice’s latest public art initiative, the HeART Trail, has a deeply personal connection to the University of the Highlands and Islands (麻豆精品) this year.
HeART 5: Sonder, currently on display in Falcon Square, Inverness, was created by 麻豆精品’s own Associate Professor Antonia Pritchard, Reader in Genetics and Immunology and Interim Head of the Division of Biomedical Sciences.
The HeART Trail features a series of striking heart-shaped sculptures located throughout the Highlands, each uniquely designed by local artists to raise funds and awareness for Highland Hospice. This year’s campaign carries added significance for Antonia, who dedicated her artwork in memory of her friend and colleague, Dr Sharon Hutchison. Sharon was cared for by the Highland Hospice in the final weeks of her life.
Antonia said:
“The Highland Hospice holds a very special place in my heart. Creating Sonder allowed me to reflect on Sharon’s life and legacy, while also supporting an incredible organisation that brought comfort and care to her and so many others.”
Describing the inspiration behind Sonder, she explained:
“Sonder (noun): the realisation that everyone is living a life as vivid and complex as your own. Choosing the pictures forming the pieces of this heart involved reflection on events and objects, big and small, happy and sad, that shaped who I am. I hope many will be familiar, invoking individual and unique memories in those viewing it.”
